'De los hijos de mamá, yo soy el gallo pelón. Soy el que toma más ron, con más extremosidad.'
If you are from Puerto Rico, you definitely know that song. If you aren't, but you speak Spanish, you must be laughing by now.
That is definitely my favorite Puertorican holiday song. Not because it's about an alcoholic son and celebrates extreme rum drinking (our delicious national drink). But because it has a fun rhythm to it.
Now that you know my favorite Christmas song, I want to share my favorite Puertorican Holiday Drink: Coquito!
It's made with Coconut Milk and Condensed Milk. Spiced with Cinnamon, Cloves and Nutmeg. Then we add a few shots of Puertorican Rum, because rum makes the holidays more fun.
It's sweet and creamy, similar to Egg Nog in texture, but richer in flavor.
If you can't stomach raw eggs, this is the drink for you.

I'm not sure who wrote that song. It's one of those songs that everyone knows and sings during the holidays.

Oh my goodness, this looks like the perfect alternative to eggnog. I like eggnog, but I'm always looking for something unique. I will try this one out when I get a chance! Now, I need to find Puertorican rum.....
Yesss coquito! Just bought a bottle for our Christmas party.
Someone told me there's a recipe going around of pistachio flavor coquito. Love to try that!
@Karisha:
I've tried Pistachio and Chocolate varieties. The chocolate one I didn't like, but the pistachio was very good. Don;t have a recipe though. I guess they use some sort of flavoring or extract.
I like how you put together your ideas in this blog.

This is a very good recipe. I just made a double batch. I used two cans of lite coconut milk and one regular can. I scooped out the cream into my catch and it gave it just the right texture for me. Do you scoop out the cream of the coconut milk or use all of the can?
